Beorning Saga pt 2 - Meara 6

Meara's Diary : 7th Rain's Hand

Yesterday was another day of preparation, our Hand’s kit was oiled, hammered and darned. All blades were razor sharp and we’d been practicing our battle tactics. Hey Gal then called us together before sunset to say that BB was talking. Once Meara and the other Hand Leaders had a plan she’d let us know... and by Talos did she. I’d better check the lock in this diary…
BB’s wife and daughter have been kidnapped by this Thalmor leader, called Phaegol, from Whiterun in Skyrim. It was these he used to turn BB, how he discovered BB’s identity and the location of his family is worrying for some. Apparently The Whitefire is raging, she must have family somewhere. I suppose Hey Gal and Boy have each other, they never mention their parents though. I miss my parents, this just fuels my anger at those bastinado Thalmor. So we’ve used some of the support mages and we know that our three Hands have to search for a particular book, Magic From the Sky. We’re to cover the East and Cheydinhal in particular. We have three days before we must report back to The Whitefire and we leave tomorrow.

Meara's Diary : 9th Rain's Hand

We have been busy, but it’s good to have an adventure again… ran the horses ragged getting to Cheydinhal. We started asking at the bookshop in Cheydinhal, then the Inns and finally the old Mages Guild. There was an old Mage living there, who used to be in the Mages Guild, and she remembered that old Andel Indarys had a copy and suggested we check his private lodge, Riverview. Fat chance we had of getting in there, well without either thieving or murdering our way in. The Dunmer cook looked like an old adventurer who could handle himself as did the housekeeper. They were so rude, with their “I don’t care if you were General Jonna himself! Not without written consent of the Count of Cheydinhal would I let a group of men like you in. Now get off with you.” I’d almost think they were supporters of the Thalmor. Back at the Inn we heard that the Count of Cheydinhal was south at the Silverfish river.

We swapped the horses for fresh ones and charged south to get some letters of authority from Farwil Indarys, the Count of Cheydinhal. We arrived just in time, the Knights of the Thorn were surrounded but we dismounted and came in sneaking all the way. Then we hit them hard from the flank. Tally and I surprised them with magics and Hey Boy with Shaker fired their bows quickly changing to hammer in with their two handers. The shock broke the Aldmeri forces and they ran into the Silverfish River, someone worked some magic to raise the waters and fill it with a shoal of Slaughterfish. It was the Redmer river by the time those fish had lived up to their name. Indarys came over to thank us but clammed up when Hey Gal asked about his father. For a moment we thought it was back to the thieve or murder option to get that book. Then Farwil looked hard at me, I got a bit uncomfortable as he walked over. He asked for my staff, politely I must say and then exclaimed in joy and babbled something about where did I get it from? When I explained it was my great, great, great etc… grandparent’s he suddenly gave me the greatest hug. I was concerned wondering if Sheogorath had taken him but he explained that my ancestor was the hero of Kvatch and had saved him during the Oblivion crisis! That made it easy, he wrote the necessary letters of authority, stamped his signet ring on the wax and handed them to Hey Gal. That means that if my staff is from my ancestor then my sword must be too! I am heartened by the news that my ancestor was the hero of Kvatch, maybe it runs in the blood? Then again my blood also has that of my Necromancer ancestor Lorgren.

Us Fiddlers charged back up the road to Cheydinhal. It must have caused some funny looks from the locals in Cheydinhal. With the sealed letter the Riverview staff ungraciously let us in. We methodically searched the Lodge, at the back of a shelf in a dusty back room we found ‘Magic from the Sky’ and read it. It was all about various Ayleid ruins and magic, but in the notes were various Great Welkynd Stone locations :Varsa Baalim - in Sundercliff Watch in Thalmor territory (known to be located & destroyed) , Garlas Malatar - near Anvil east on the border with Hammerfell in Thalmor territory, Vanua - south of the White City in Thalmor territory, Lost Abargalas - deep inside Sideways Cave & Kemen - an Ayleid Ruin in the Valus Mountains North East of Cheydinhal. Tally carefully cast a powerful Clairvoyance spell, it seemed to point North East. So Kemen it is. With 36 hours left before we must be back at base.
